Guess who was finally shooting fashion again! Had a great 8-hour shoot over at the Niche office, working with an awesomely talented group.  Jaclyn, a talented designer, recent UH graduate, and fellow Maui girl, made those two amazing dresses herself! There’s more to come that day, so stay tuned!

Fashion Update

My first personal fashion shoot in over a year! Head on over to the D’amour Pacific Photography blog to see more!

Test Shoot With Jordyn

I recently did a test shoot with new model Jordyn, who wants to get started on Model Mayhem!  Already she’s show a lot of dedication to modeling, also doing an awesome shoot with Nineteen Owls! (Photographer Christen is an old photo classmate of mine!)

For this shoot, we went down to Waikiki and took some dreamy images at sunset.  Enjoy!

Storms and Rainbows – Winter in Hawaii

I seem to be having luck with the rainbows lately!  I took this during Daeja’s shoot for the Guava Shop, an amazing boutique in Haleiwa, Hawaii.

Guava Shop Instax

This Monday, despite on and off stormy weather, I assisted Daeja with a shoot for the Guava Shop, the most awesome boutique store ever, located in Haleiwa.  We also had the lovely Calli Wagner as our model.  Here are some of the photos I shot with my Instax:

I am looking forward to more beautiful stormy days of winter in Hawaii!

Fashion Tumblr!

As part of my determined procrastination for NaNoWriMo, I’ve made a fashion-themed Tumblr account!

Basically, I’ll be posting link to random clothes/shoes/accessories that I like around the internet.  I figured that clogging my blog up with posts like this would be too much, and Tumblr makes it so easy to just post the occasional link.  Hope some of you like it!

Ok, back to writing.

Europe, Revisited, and More

As inspiration/research for my NaNoWriMo endeavors, I’ve been going through a lot of my old photos from my Europe study abroad in 2006.  Here are a few that I decided to re-process, and most of them have never been posted, aside from my old study abroad blog, which is no longer in existence.

“Burano” – The island near Venice, famous for its brightly-painted houses.

“Remember Venice” – Gondolas on the Grand Canal.

“Meet Me At Como” – A cafe on the shores of Lake Como.

“Switzerland” – Somewhere near Interlaken.

The best part of these photographs is that while the first picture, “Burano”, was taken with my old Canon Digital Rebel/kit lens, the last three were taken with my old Canon Powershot SD400…and that last shot in Switzerland was out of a moving bus window!  It’s looking back on photos like these, when I was still very new to the art of photography and had the most basic of equipment, that remind me I can be more than my equipment.  There have been many times where I have taken a photo, and people’s only comment is “Wow, you are  so lucky you have such a nice camera!”, without any credit given to me as the eye behind the lens.  A few of my photographer peers have had similar experiences, so I know I’m not alone in noticing this.

In other news, there’s apparently a Wildlife Photography Contest going on over at deviantART, and it’s the first photography contest in ages that has interested me.  Luckily, zoo photography is allowed, so maybe I’ll be able to figure something out before December 15th.  Of course, it’d be much more impressive to go back to Maui’s rainforest looking for honeycreepers, but if I do that I’ll be wanting to rent a super-telephoto from Hawaii Photo Rental, and didn’t I just say I want to be more than my equipment?  Plus, I’m a very small girl, and hiking one of those monster lenses into a rainforest is rather daunting.  Where’s my entourage when I need one?

I also might be posting more fashion-related entries as time goes on and my interest in fashion grows.  Check out this shot of Sarah Jessica Parker from Elle:

I’m in love with the styling here! (Matte jersey crepe top with cage shoulder, $295, leather vest, $1,190, both, Alexander Wang, at Barneys New York. Cotton tank top, Michael Stars, $38. Stretch briefs, Chanel, $900. Leather boots, Bess, $385.)

Finally, I wanted to promote my dear friend and travel partner,  Cameron, and her new blog, Eyes on Etsy!

Eyes on Etsy

As a huge Etsy fan, like myself, Cameron puts together awesome themed collections made up of the best handmade and vintage items she finds!  In her own words:

Etsy is a magical, bountiful land of online creativity and commerce, specializing in handmade and vintage goods. I discovered it one day while wandering along (virtually), and fell head-over-heels in love. Now, just like any realistic love interest, Etsy is not 100% awesome 100% of the time. However, with a little patience, you can find some true gems… and I have.

So, seeing as I spend at least some part of every day browsing Etsy – and seeing as my list of Favorite items is approaching 300 – I thought I’d share my finds with the world. Maybe you can afford to actually purchase something…

Happy browsing,
Cameron

So there you have it! You can follow her on Twitter too, for all the great finds she doesn’t post on her blog!

There, I’ve been a good blogger now.  May I have a cookie? :)

So many projects, so many incomplete…

I am so behind on blogging, but I seem to be behind on almost everything.  Studio Myo is looking to launch a fashion/accessory line with products ready by next April, and so I’ve been doing some graphic design for that, but no finished mock-ups.  Right now I’m doing designs for basic t-shirts, as well as some custom designed dresses/tops.  Kaeo is supposed to be putting together a small screen printing station in his bedroom, but so far only the screens and frames have been purchased. I have the materials to put together a ton of glass tile necklaces, but haven’t finished any because the loops on the bails can’t fit over the pre-made necklaces’ clasps.  Then there’s photography…I have a few models on Model Mayhem who want to work with me, but I haven’t come up with any solid shoot ideas yet.  The good news is that Daeja is finally back from New York, so I’ll have some real work to do.

I’m also planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year…but we’ll see how that goes. I have an idea, but no solid outlines, and only twenty or so days to be ready to write.

Currently waiting for a friend to wake up from his afternoon nap so we can take a group excursion to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for so much needed solidarity against procrastination.  I’m worried he’ll wake up around 7pm, since he’s not answering his phone.

Lastly, I plan to be doing just-for-fun shoots in the UH Manoa Photo studio this semester, since I’ve paid my lab fees. I’ll make a post of the random images we’ve shot so far, but here’s one for now:

By the way, finally got Koda’s Australian pedigree papers! I’ll be making a page on this site dedicated to her later, in case I eventually decide to breed her.  (I come from a family of dog breeders, so it’s in my blood!)  But not until we have a yard for her!

Our friend is not waking up, so we may have to drive over there and wake him up ourselves…

SUGARHIGH + LOVESTONED

Last month Daeja and I got to work with the girls of SUGARHIGH + LOVESTONED, a collaboration between two fashion lines originating on Maui. With the help of stylist Jessica Simpson and Charls the Wonder Intern*, we had a super successful shoot! I’ve posted some polaroids from that day, but now that their site is live, here are some of my photos:

*And here’s Charls!

Polaroids!

Dear Blog,

I’ve been neglecting you. It’s not that I have nothing to show or say for myself, but more that I’ve been lazy, and it’s so much more convenient to upload things to Facebook, DeviantArt, and Flickr. But that’s no excuse, and to make up for it, here are some polaroids.

Love, Dallas.

Okay, that last one is actually from my new FujiFilm Instax camera! I only have two boxes (total of 20 sheets) left of Polaroid 600, and it’s now averaging about $20/box online, but the Instax film is still being produced! There’s something about shooting instant film that is refreshing, because I feel more validated as a photographer by getting good pictures without the ability to edit them. Expect more instant-photos soon! Especially now that I have my new scanner!
