Bio

Dallas Nagata is a recent UH Manoa graduate working as a full-time professional photographer in the Honolulu area.  However, her interests expand far beyond just photography, as she has passions for food, books, television, movies, and all art in general.

Dallas is not sure why she is writing her bio in third-person, but it seems to be the way things are going to be.

Born and raised on the island of Maui, Hawaii, Dallas spent much of her childhood roaming the slopes of Haleakala, playing in pastures and forests, creating wild games for the other neighborhood kids using only her imagination and environment.  It was this drive for creativity that led her to eventually focus on studying art in school.  Dallas has taken classes in a large variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, design, and digital art.  She did not seriously practice photography until her first semester of college, during the Fall 2004 semester at UH Manoa.  Intending to be a painting major, she took photography as a last resort when all her other classes filled up before she could register for them.  However, it ignited a passion for photography within her, and she has rarely been without a camera since then.

During the spring of 2006, Dallas also developed a passion for travel, as she took part in a Study Abroad program in Florence, Italy for 4 months.  During that time, she also traveled to Switzerland and Ireland, and has since been on trips to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.  During her travels, she’s been canyon jumping twice, even though she never thought herself to be the extreme-sport type!

When she’s not doing photography, Dallas still works on drawing and painting in an illustrative style, but has fallen out of practice as of late.  She has also developed interests in making jewelry and crafting miniatures from polymer clay.  She’s also taken up sewing, making costumes and custom clothing items.  There are probably enough art supplies in her apartment to stock a small craft store!

Dallas currently lives in Honolulu, Hawaii.
